Mechanical Engineer

The Role

Farmshelf’s mission is to disrupt traditional farming through beautiful automated systems that allow anyone to grow their own food where they live, work and eat. We seek a Mechanical Engineer to join our rapidly growing company and drive substantial impact.

We are looking for a passionate engineer with 2+ years of relevant experience and the ability to adapt within a fast-paced environment. An ability to embrace uncertainty and continued learning is vital to this role. This person will be part of the Systems Engineering team responsible for the mechanical design and manufacturing of the Farmshelf system.


Responsibilities

  • Design scalable, manufacturable components and mechanical systems to support the demands of our food growing systems

  • Fabricate prototypes using digital fabrication tools (CNC Machining, 3D printing, Vacuum forming, etc.)

  • Aide in the development of innovative solutions and advance the state of indoor farming alongside software engineers, agricultural scientists, and initial beta customers

  • Communicate concepts and ideas to the engineering team

  • Work with the engineering team to design and test new product concepts

  • Assist in the creation of BOMs for internal designs and outsourced designs

  • Source vendors and suppliers and effectively manage expectations internally and externally

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical engineering/design skill set - BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or other related field

  • 2+ years of experience

  • Design for Manufacturing experience

  • Passionate to solve problems, and pursue challenges

  • Excited to work with a fast-growing mission-driven startup

  • Experience developing mechanical designs and drawings using solid modeling CAD software, SolidWorks, machine layouts and Bill of Materials

  • Fluent in 3D CAD software (Solidworks)

Bonus

  • Experience designing biological control systems

  • Understanding of hydroponic growing methods and challenges

  • Background manufacturing products that involve injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, vacuum forming and water systems

  • Systems design experience

  • Fabrication experience - CNC Machining, Milling, Welding, 3D Printing, Laser Cutting

  • Consumer Product, Kitchen Appliances and/or Furniture experience
